Domain Names     (Show/hide all)

1. Once I register a domain name through myhosting.com can I manage the registration information ?
   Yes you can. To retrieve your domain management login you’d need to contact our Customer Support department. A representative from the Customer Support team will then request that the login information be sent to the current administrative contact that is listed on your domain name registration.
2. Can I renew my domain name through myhosting.com?
   If you registered a new domain name through myhosting.com then you’ll be able to renew your domain with us. If your registration is not with us you may be able to do a registrar transfer so that we can renew your domain name for you.

    

   We can renew the most common domains names and many country-level domain names as well. To see if your domain name is supported, you can check our Domain Names page. If you want to begin a registrar transfer for your domain name, please contact our Customer Support department.

3. Can I transfer an existing domain name to myhosting.com from another company?

   Yes. You will just need to contact your current host, or the registrar of your domain and ask them to change the name servers (DNS) of the domain to myhosting.com name servers which are:

   You should continue to keep your hosting service at your present site while waiting for the domain to be transferred, as it takes 24-48 hours for a DNS transfer request to be processed. Sometimes it may be necessary to contact your old host and/or registrar by phone to get the transferred completed.

4. What is a Vanity Domain?

   When signing up for hosting, you will have the option of using a vanity domain name free of charge.

   An example of a Vanity Domain would be: name.myhosting.net or john.myhosting.net, etc.

5. Can I switch domain names ?
   No you cannot "replace" an old domain/IP address/account with a new domain as they are not interchangeable. You would need to signup for another account with myhosting.com and set up another domain name (IP addresses are specific to each domain name.). Additionally, you cannot switch the domains as they have unique DNS records.
6. If I register a domain name with you can I move it to another hosting company if I need to ?
   Yes you can. Once you register a domain name name, it is yours and you are free to host it wherever you choose. If you need assistance with moving your domain please contact contact our Customer Support department.
7. Can you host international domains, like .tr, .jp, .au, .ru, etc?
   Yes, myhosting.com can host any country-code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) that can be registered with an affiliated registrar.
8. Can I have more than one domain name with Email Hosting?
   No, only one domain name can be associated with your Email Hosting Plan.  If you would like to receive email with another domain name, you will need to sign up for one of our shared, dedicated or application hosting plans.
9. Can I park a domain at myhosting.com?

   Yes, myhosting.com offers free domain parking services. All you need to pay is the domain registration fee.

   To park a domain please go to our signup pages and choose Domain Parking and Domain/Email Forwarding.

10. Can I transfer the registrar of my domain from my current registrar to OpenSRS?

    Yes, please contact sales@myhosting.com to request the registrar transfer. The cost of a registrar transfer is equivalent to a one-year registration fee for the domain extension you wish to transfer, plus a $5 manual submission fee.

    NOTE:  We can only accept transfers for domains that have not yet expired, or will not expire within the next 14 days.  Additionally, there must be a valid domain admin email account available.

11. Can myhosting.com host .ca domains?
    Yes, myhosting.com can host and register .ca domains. All .ca domains are registered through OpenSRS and cost US $15.00 + GST per year.
12. Can myhosting.com host .co.uk domains?

    Yes, myhosting.com can host and register .co.uk domains.  All .co.uk domains are registered through OpenSRS and cost US $39.90 for two years.

    NOTE:  All .co.uk domains must be registered for two years. 

13. Can you host international domains, like .tr, .jp, .au, .ru, etc?
    Yes, myhosting.com can host any country-code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) that can be registered with an affiliated registrar.
14. Could you tell me more about aliasing?

    There are several ways aliasing works:

    DNS (Domain) Aliasing:  DNS Aliasing allows you to host more than one domain name on a single hosting account. By typing your DNS Alias address (http://www.aliasdomain.com) in the browser, your visitors will automatically see the content on your primary website (http://www.primarysite.com).

     

    This redirection is performed at the Domain Name Server level and does not involve any script or redirection. It’s fast, reliable, and will work with any web browser. The DNS Alias does not change your existing address or web site in any way. Additionally, since the DNS Alias is implemented on the DNS level, not only are HTTP and FTP connections forwarded to your primary site content, but also your e-mail is delivered to your mailbox on your primary domain name. For example, if you send an e-mail to joe@aliasdomain.com, it will be delivered to joe@primarysite.com.

     

    DIR (Directory) Aliasing: DIR Aliases allow you to use different domain names to point to different directories of your web site (share the same webspace). For DIR aliases, we assign a unique IP address and create a folder in your root directory, as the home directory of DIR Alias. FTP connections and e-mail are still routed to your main domain. Remember that FrontPage extensions do not work for DIR alias accounts.

     

    Example:  http://www.newdomain.com points to http://www.primary.com/newdomain but in browers shows http://newdomain.com. E-mail sent to joe@newdomain.com is routed to joe@primary.com

     

    PLEASE NOTE: The DIR Alias product is no longer available for signup. As an alternative we suggest Basic Hosting.

     

    Sub Domain: A sub-domain is like directory aliasing with the exception that instead of http://www.newdomain.com pointing to http://www.primary.com/newdomain, this time http://newdomain.primary.com points to http://www.primary.com/newdomain. Basically, the difference is you do not need to register another domain name but have instead elected to use the option of a sub-domain. For sub-domains, we assign another IP address and assign a directory in your domain as the home directory of your sub-domain's web site.

     

    PLEASE NOTE: The Sub-Domain Alias product is no longer available for signup. As an alternative we suggest Basic Hosting.

     

    There are limitations to selecting Sub-domain, DNS, and DIR aliasing. You will not have your own email account associated with the alias domain, and will instead be set up under the primary domain. You will also not be able to access the site to upload via FTP, and would need to do so either through the primary domain, or set up an additional FTP user, at additional expense. There are also no log files. It is recommended that resellers interested in parceling out their account consider setting up separate accounts for their customers. Otherwise, when the site under DIR alias has grown enough, the switch over to a full account will result in downtime and delay. Also, Alias domains do not have their own FP Server Extensions. They only have their own virtual web server. You will have to manage the alias through your main domain, as it is a part of it.

     

    To sign up for a Domain (DNS) Alias, log in to the Control Panel, click on "Domain Name" and then "Add an Alias". 

15. Do I need to have a Domain Name to set up an account with myhosting.com?
    For all our hosting plans you will either need to register a new domain name or transfer your existing domain name to our name servers.
16. Is a domain name required to use Email Hosting?
    Yes. A domain name is required to use the Email Hosting plan. If you do not already have a domain name, you may register for one at http://myhosting.com.
17. Does my domain name remain my property if you register/transfer it for me?
    Yes.  We always use your company information when we register your domain name, so your domain name will always belong to you.  We are the technical contact only
18. Does myhosting.com register domain names?
    Yes! We can register many different domain names for you through OpenSRS.
19. Do you offer WHOIS Privacy with Domain Name Registration?

    Yes. We offer WHOIS Privacy for .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi, .cc and .tv domain name registrations through us at Tucows/OpenSRS. It is included for FREE with your domain name registration.

     

    If your domain name is registered with us through OpenSRS and you wish to enable WHOIS Privacy, please contact our Customer Support Department for assistance.

20. I received an invoice from another company for my domain name renewal. Who are they and what should I do?

    If you get a notice or invoice in the mail from a company you do not recognize urging you to renew your domain name at a higher price, please be cautious. Contact the company you registered your domain name with and ask them about it. If you have registered your domain name with us and you have received one of these notices, please feel free to contact us to confirm. We generally do not send invoices in the mail for domain name renewal, and you can always check our current prices on our web site.

     

    We have recently added a new feature called WHOIS Privacy which is available for all .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi, .cc and .tv domain names registered with us through OpenSRS. This feature allows you to hide your contact information from the publicly accessible WHOIS Database. This will prevent these companies from seeing your address and sending you unsolicited and unethical renewal notices.

     

    WHOIS Privacy is offered as a FREE feature for all new domain name registrations with myhosting.com. However if you are an existing customer who wants to enable this feature on your domain name, please contact our Customer Support Department.

21. How do I transfer my domain if it is registered by Network Solutions?

    If your domain is already registered by Network Solutions, you will need to submit your DNS transfer request directly to Network Solutions.

    1. Browse to https://www.networksolutions.com/manage-it/index.jsp
    2. Enter Username and Password
    3. Click on the domain name you want to modify
    4. Click on Edit Contacts/Manage DNS
    5. Click on Manage Name Servers
    6. Click on No Thanks
    7. Enter name server information:
       
       Primary Name Server
       Primary Server Hostname.........: NS5.SOFTCOMCA.COM
       Primary Server Net Address.......: 168.144.1.155
       
       Secondary Name Server
       Secondary Server Hostname.......: NS6.SOFTCOMCA.COM

    8. Click Continue
22. How do I transfer my domain to myhosting.com? I don't know where it is registered.
    If you do not know where your domain is registered, you should do a WHOIS check to find out who the registrar of your domain is. Browse to http://www.internic.net/whois.html and enter your domain name in the search box. This will give you the registrar, and name servers. Enter the registrar's address into the browser to visit that registrar to make the changes to the name servers to transfer your domain to myhosting.com.
23. How do I transfer my domain to myhosting.com if it has a foreign domain extension?

    To transfer your domain to myhosting.com if it has a foreign domain extension, you must provide the following information to your registrar:

    Primary Name Server
    Primary Server Hostname.........: NS5.SOFTCOMCA.COM
    Primary Server Net Address.......: 168.144.1.155
    
    Secondary Name Server
    Secondary Server Hostname.......: NS6.SOFTCOMCA.COM
    Secondary Server Net Address.....: 168.144.68.6

    NOTE:  Your local NIC may require that your DNS be created prior to approval - notify us at support@myhosting.com and we will create the DNS entry that will allow you to request the domain transfer and delegation.
24. How soon can I set up my account and transfer my domain?

    Just click on Sign Up button to signup for an account. You can then contact the registrar of your domain (if your domain is already registered) and provide them with our name server information:

    NOTE:  Domain Transfer usually takes 24-48 hours to be updated after you submit the changes to your registrar.

25. What are the differences in registering my domain with either Network Solutions or OpenSRS?
    Network Solutions costs US $14.95 and you can only register .com, .net, or .org domain names. OpenSRS costs US $9.95 for .com, .net, .us, and .org extensions. You can also register .co.uk/.org.uk for US $39.90/2yrs, .info/.biz for US $14.95/yr, .ca for US $29.95/yr, .us for US $19.90/2yrs and .cc for US $44.95/yr with OpenSRS. We also support registration and renewal of .cn, .ch, .de, .eu, .fr and .nl with OpenSRS. For more information please refer to our Domain Name Registration page.
26. What can I do if I'm having problems with a foreign domain transfer?

    To complete the delegation and transfer of a foreign domain to our name servers, notify myhosting.com™ after signing up for hosting to request the DNS entry to be created. Then supply your registrar the following information :

27. What is the procedure if I am transferring my domain name myself?

    If you are transferring your domain name, you will require the following information:

    Primary Server Netaddress.......: 168.144.1.33
    
    Secondary Name Server
    Secondary Server Hostname.......: NS4.SOFTCOMCA.COM

    1. Your registrar may require that your DNS be created prior to approval - notify us as soon as you sign up for hosting and we will allocate your IP address and create the DNS entry. You should then request that the NIC registry register and delegate your domain.
    2. Please notify us of the transfer completion.
28. What type of domain extensions are you able to register?

    myhosting.com can register .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .mobi, as well as .at, .be, .ca, .cc, .ch, .cn, .de, .es, .eu, .fr, .it, , .com.mx, .nl, .tv, .us, .co.uk, .net.uk, .me.uk and .org.uk.

    Domain extensions of .com, .net, and .org can be registered using Network Solutions or OpenSRS. All the other domain names mentioned are registered through OpenSRS only.

29. Which characters may I use in my domain name?
    A domain name can be up to 67 characters long including the 4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain (.NET, .COM, .ORG, or .EDU). The domain must consist only of letters, numbers and dashes(-), although it cannot start or end with a dash(-). The www is not part of the actual domain name and is just a standard web prefix. Domains must also be at least 3 characters long, not including the domain extension.
30. Why is it important to keep my Domain Names Admin e-mail address up to date?
    It is important to keep your domains' admin e-mail address current as it is at your domains' admin email address that your registrar will contact you with regarding your domain.  It is important that your registrar be able to reach you regarding your domain; not keeping your e-mail address current with your registrar may cause delays in changes you might wish to make to your domain name record.
