1. Are there any log files with my free Linux hosting account?

   Yes, you can keep a log file for your free Linux hosting account.  When you first activate your free Linux hosting, we will use the same option you have specified with your Windows hosting.  For example, if you have chosen to turn logging off, then we will turn logging off for your Linux account.  If you have your logging option turned on, then it will be turned on for your Linux account.

   There will be a separate log file for your Linux hosting account, which will be saved under a special directory on your sub.yourdomain.com space.  The log file will be in the default Apache standard and is separated into 2 sections; access and error.

2. Are you running PHP and Perl on Windows or Linux?
   Our support for PHP and Perl is on our native Linux accounts, included free with our Premium and Professional plans and supported natively on our Basic Plan. These Linux account are running Debian OS with Apache.
3. Can I run mailing lists on my Linux account?

   Yes, you can run a mailing list script on your Linux account.  However, please note that there is a maximum of 1000 SMTP messages per day for your Linux account.  This limit is strictly enforced.

   Further, myhosting.com does not support Spamming, Bulk or Unsolicited mail in any way.  Please ensure that you review our Acceptable Use Policy before engaging in such activities.

4. Can I upgrade my Free Linux account to include more Disk Space?

   Yes, you can do so by upgrading your entire hosting account to one of our other hosting plans.  Please see the article entitled "How do I upgrade my hosting plan?"

5. Do existing customers get a free Linux account?
   Yes, existing customers just need to log into their account control panel at https://support.myhosting.com/, go to the 'Site Management' area, click on 'Linux Hosting' and follow the instructions to activate their free Linux account.
6. Do I get any email accounts with my Free Linux hosting option?
   No, you do not get any extra email accounts with your free Linux hosting option. Also, any email sent to your Linux account (i.e. to user@sub.yourdomain.com) will be forwarded to the mail server on your Windows account.
7. Do you get additional disk space or bandwidth with the Free Linux account?
   No, disk space, bandwidth, email accounts and most of the other features of our Basic, Professional, Corporate and Enterprise hosting plans remain the same. If you choose to enable and use the free Linux account that comes with these plans, the resources for the plan are shared. For example, bandwidth calculation will be a total of the bandwidth used for Linux hosting + Windows hosting. Similarly, diskspace and email accounts are also a shared resource.
8. Do you offer a pure Linux or Unix account?
   Yes, we currently offer the Basic plan for $7.95 a month. For more information click here
9. Do you offer dedicated Linux hosting?
   No, at this point we do not offer any Dedicated Hosting options.
10. Do you support PHP, Perl or MySQL?
    Yes, we support PHP, Perl and MySQL under our Linux hosting option. Linux hosting is fully supported under our Premium and Professional hosting plans with the Free Linux option, and natively under our Basic Hosting plan. Please see the FAQ entitled “How do I activate my Free Linux hosting?” for more information.
11. Do you support SSI under Linux?
    No, SSI is not supported under our Linux hosting due to security concerns.  If you need to use SSI, you can do so under your Windows hosting account, or you can use Perl or PHP scripts.
12. Does the Free Linux hosting option cost extra?
    The Linux hosting option for Premium and Professional hosting does not cost extra, and will provide you with the ability to host your PHP, Perl and MySQL applications.  This option is included for free with our Basic, Professional, Corporate and Enterprise Windows hosting plans.  If you want to learn how to activate your Linux hosting option, please click here.
13. How do I activate my Free Linux hosting?

    Customers who have signed up for our Premium and Professional hosting plans can follow these steps to activate their Free Linux hosting account.

     

    1. Browse to https://support.myhosting.com
    2. Log in with your domain name, password and Reseller ID (optional).
    3. Click - Site Management
    4. Click - Linux Account
    5. Click - CONTINUE
    6. Choose your preferred sub-domain name and click ACTIVATE

    Once you have completed these steps, we will begin the activation of your Linux account. Please note that it may take several hours to activate your account and for the DNS to be fully updated.

14. What databases do you support under Linux?
    We support MySQL and enable it for all accounts automatically.
15. Will adding the Free Linux account change my Windows account?
    No, adding the Linux account will have no effect on your Windows account. The Linux sites are run on separate servers and use a sub-domain based on your existing domain name for web access. At any time you can disable your Linux account through your account control panel without having any impact on your Windows hosting account.
