What is FTP?
FTP or File Transfer Protocol, is a network tool which allows exchanging and manipulating files over a network, like the Internet.
It is built on client-server structure and able to separate client and server applications. FTP is a must for hosting, since you have to upload your site files to your hosting package web space, in order to publish them to the web.
Why do I need to use FTP?
- To promote sharing of files (computer programs and/or data).
- To encourage indirect or implicit use of remote computers.
- To shield a user from variations in file storage systems among different hosts.
- To transfer data reliably, and efficiently.
- To perform web site publishing and/or maintenance.
- To create backups of local or remote files.
