I received an interesting tweet today from Kathleen Weaver about a blog post she’d written about her hosting experience and why she chose to move to myhosting.com. I thought it was an interesting opinion shared by many females I know, so I decided to share it with you.
The blog post was actually about Combating Sexism by switching hosting providers. Why? Because the new GoDaddy ads, like the one with Danika Patrick in the shower with another woman, can be seen as offensive, sexist and an all-around a shock-tactic that some people would rather not support.
Here’s an excerpt from Kathleen’s post, “Literally years ago, long before they sponsored Danika and long before any of the sexist ads, I set up some domains on GoDaddy.Com. Why? Because the service I was using to host those domains recommended them.”
We would like to thank Kathleen for sharing her opinion and for the shout out on her blog.
And thanks to everyone who hosts with us.
If you have any hosting stories, opinions or kudos you would like to share and possibly have featured on our blog, please tweet us: @myhosting or @smichm or leave a comment below!

True, it does seem sexist. But Danika kicks ass at her sport and I think it can also be seen as good “exposure” for women doing well at anything they want to, including what was typically a “man’s sport” before. Either way, I don’t plan my domain name and business plans based on what naked women tell me to do
hahhaah great point
Well, FutbolFred, you bring up some interesting points. But it does perpetuate the feeling that women need to be sexy to succeed even in the biz world, which is definitely not true.
This goes to a point I think I’ve made before: when it comes to these kinds of shock tactics, you lose at least as many customers as you gain.
I agree with RealMadrid. These ads are not celebrating Danica’s achivements. Has Jeff Gordon ever done commercials in the shower?
Where does the blame lie, though? With the advertisers, or with consumers who visit this site and validate this kind of advertising?
