What Is PayPal?

by Arjun Kathir on July 28, 2010

PayPal is a method that allows businesses as well as individuals to send as well as receive money online. For instance, a buyer may choose to remit payment by using a bank account, a debit card, or a credit card. By using PayPal, a buyer can put together totally secure purchases, all accomplished without divulging the credit card number or even any bank information associated with that purchase.

As a seller, PayPal allows a business to accept bank account payments, debit cards and credit cards and accomplish all of this for low transaction fees. Adding PayPal to a website can be accomplished in minutes, without necessary costly downtime. Once PayPal is added, the business now has access to a mounting user base that actually has millions of extremely active online shoppers.

Buyers love using PayPal because it actually protects the user from identity theft as private financial information is kept totally private. This works so well because the sensitive information that the buyer puts into PayPal does not ever reach the seller’s hands. All sensitive information is carefully encrypted to protect either the sender or the receiver of funds through PayPal.

PayPal uses state of the art technology and even includes 24/7 transaction monitoring in order to keep you and your customers safe. Imagine too, receiving 100% security towards unauthorized payments that have been sent though your account. You will be notified through email almost instantly that a payment has been made from your account, so that if fraud is being perpetrated, you can act instantly to deny that payment. Often, this actually prevents the sale from going through and it helps the authorities to at times be able to catch the ones trying to perpetrate identity theft.

Merchants who use PayPal to accept payments are quite enthused by the idea that their buyers do not even need to leave their site in order to complete the payment portion of a sale. This serves to allay any fears that the purchasers may have, and instills confidence in the company. It is a pleasant way to purchase items that is quite easy and reliable.

Back in the “old days” when a merchant wished to accept a credit card, he had to make a deal with each type of card he wished to accept. Today, PayPal allows you to accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover! Also, merchants are happy to learn that hundreds of the most popular software programs for shopping carts are integrated to work easily with PayPal as well.

It’s amazing how this system works without anyone having to divulge bank or credit card info. That’s the main reason I love PayPal.

I hate to be negative, but you’d have to imagine that hackers around the world are working hard right now trying to break into PayPal. Hopefully, PayPal’s monitoring system will be able to stave them off.
