VPS Management and Administration Made Easy with cPanel/WHM

by Chinonye on August 8, 2011

WHM C Panel for Reseller VPScPanel/WHM, branded as the “premier choice for web hosts,” alleviates VPS Hosting customers from burdensome administrative and management tasks to provide more efficient hosting with less time spent fixing problems.

A WHM / cPanel VPS provides a web hosting control panel that will help you support your Linux VPS. The software is designed to be a user-friendly and powerful tool for end user website owners, resellers and administrators.

cPanel touts an intuitive interface with video tutorials, on-screen help, and 24/7 tech support. The WHM software boasts automated server management tasks that reduce the work of the server administrators. Both WHM and cPanel are accessible through smartphones for administrators on-the-go, and security features include virus protection, rootkit detection and current threats such as XSRF and XSS attacks. The software can automatically update itself, so customers never need to worry about being out of date with security features or the latest application technology. Additionally, self-monitoring safeguards are built into the software to detect, report and fix problems. For example, if the software detects a service failure, it will automatically attempt to restart the service. The WHM software can also be setup to email, instant message or text problems to server administrators immediately. A variety of APIs are offered to automate the function of WHM and cPanel VPS, including recent XML and JSON API expansions.

Fantastico, WHMCS, RVSkin and RVSiteBuilder

Auto-installer add-ons also can be purchased, such as Fantastico, which can automate installation of web applications into your user’s websites. This allows your web hosting users to install WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Gallery and many other popular web applications in just a few clicks.

There are also other add-ons available, including Web Hosting Manager’s Complete Solution or WHMCS, a client management, billing and support application. Designed specifically to integrate with cPanel and WHM, WHMCS is a very popular application because it joins together customer billing and support, and it can be combined for easy WHMCS VPS access.

Plenty of other add-ons, such as RVSkin, which is a customizable skin manager, and RVSitebuilder, a website development tool, are fully integratable into cPanel to make a fully customized, easy web hosting experience. The software also offers powerful web-development tools that allow web developers to select which PHP version to use and to install their own RoR packages, Perl modules, and PHP PEAR packages.

Finally, another very important practical feature of the software is that customers of WHM and cPanel can resell what are called white label reseller accounts. Resellers can customize the appearance of cPanel with the ‘branding editor’ and standard CSS to create a customize appearance with their own logos and nameservers. Resellers can also integrate their own customized payment system, like WHMCS, into the WHM/cPanel VPS software.

How WHM / cPanel VPS Can Help Your Business

WHM / cPanel VPS is specifically designed to make complicated tasks of VPS management simple for administrators, clients and end-users. By automating server management tasks and simplifying complex tasks, direct overhead for cPanel and WHM customers is reduced. Costs are further reduced by allowing resellers and end-users to manage and customize their own accounts. This flexibility, in addition to the video tutorials and on-screen help reduces the need for resellers and web clients to ask the hosting company for technical support.

With the integration of user-friendliness, customizability and flexibility, a WHM / cPanel VPS retains powerful tools for all levels of server administration. This innovative combination allows both you and your customers to alleviate the burden of server management and allow clients to manage a smoother learning curve in managing their own servers.

For businesses, cPanel / WHM can divide a VPS into multiple shared hosting accounts, where many websites are sharing the resources of one server. This strategy is important for a business to resell shared server space to its own customers or even to different business units within a single company.

With multiple shared hosting accounts, updating of security, applications, scripts and operating system is all taken care of by the server administrator. Multiple websites and email accounts can use this server without having to worry about the technical server issues, making this formula very popular for small businesses or beginners. In the case of multiple shared hosting accounts, cPanel / WHM makes it easy for individual units sharing the server to manage their accounts that might include email, billing, customer support or website updates.

The flexibility offered by this software for add-ons, appearance and ease of use certainly makes it choice software for businesses that want to cut overhead and stay on the forefront of technology with their server hosting and websites.

I think I’ve just found a perfect Christmas gift for our server administrators!

I’d have a tough time choosing between WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and Gallery, so I’m glad cPanel doesn’t make me choose between them.

The smoother leraning curve is so important. You want to be able to master one thing at a time.

I think the strategy of dividing a VPS into shared server units for different parts of a business is really catching on. It’s a great way to allow each division of a company maximum control.

i agree with you, wrigleyf. what works for one division often doesn’t work for another division, and this system is good for resolving conflicts.
