I came across an article that said it's a good idea to send some pre-sales questions to a hosting company, to see what they say before you sign on with them. Any good examples of some pre-sales questions?

I'd ask them what they do if they don't meet their uptime guarantee. Do they offer refunds in that case?

Yes, and it's a good idea to ask a company's customers what they think of that company as well before you join.
