Does the location of a server ever matter? I've heard that if a majority of your web visitors are from, say, the Northeast, it's good to have a server located in the Northeast, but I'm not sure if this is just a myth.

As a rule of thumb, the least amount of Hops (routes) a packet has to travel, the faster it will be.
