well depends on the purpose of the page. but the golden rule is good content.

I would definitely recomment Tim Ash's book, "Landing Page Optimization: The Definitive Guide to Testing and Tuning for Conversions". This guy knows his stuff and has tested many different scenarios. It will give you a jump-start on finding the best options for a fully optimized landing page.
