When you hire someone to do design or programming work for your online business, do you write your own contracts, or pay a lawyer to do this, or use legal software to create one?

there's plenty of contracts online which you can tweak. Unless you are doing a major job with high profile client you really don't need one written by a lawyer. A contract is an agreement between 2 parties…the legal ease is necessary but usually overkill in my opinion.
