Can anyone recommend a versatile code editor, one that works with multiple computer programming languages? I've heard Notepad++ might be a good choice, but I don't know too much about it.

Everyone has their favorite text editor. Not too long ago we picked Notepad++ as best for Windows and TextMate for Mac OS X, but if you want an editor that you can jump from Windows to Mac to Linux (and back) with—in one consistent and clear interface, Komodo Edit is your best choice.
Komodo Edit is a Free Open Source Editor for Perl, Python, Tcl, PHP, Ruby & Javascript (http://www.activestate.com/komodo-edit)
