keywords and translations

If your blogs are going to be translated into other languages, do you first have to research what the most effective keywords in those other languages are? And should the keyword volume in, say, a Spanish blog be different from an English blog?

usually yes different keywords for different languages. unless its a brand name or some universal word that is the same through translation.
