Is professional website design worth it?
Is professional website design worth it? Can the public tell if my site is homemade?

There are many templates that you can use to build your site that look professional. When in doubt, keep it simple. You don't want to ruin your site by making it too busy.
-
yeahh, I say go pro. Nothing worse than homemade looking sites... blasts from geocities past... *barf*
If you must do it yourself, find some templates to get started with.... and keep it simple!

I really do not think it is worth it. With wordpress it is SO easy to make a great looking page. If you want to spend money to get a good looking page maybe just buy a premium wordpress theme. Simplicity is always best!

i guess it's worth it. Your website's designs are the major attraction!
-
how much is your time worth
Well, it all depends on how much your time is worth to you. If you could be making more money doing something else, then let a pro toy at for you. But you don't necessarily have to spend thousands!
-
you can always get pro templates or hire a junior/student for a lower amount
-
Depends on the purpose of the website. If you are trying to sell something then you obviously need something professional. If you are building a blog of some sort then just go over one of the free templates sand modify it a little. It will still look decent!

I agree with Zion, go for Wordpress themes.
You can check this site for some good themes:
