Default Problems Connecting - Please Help

    Hello everyone.

I rented a VPS recently to host a video game server on it. My friend set it up for me and is able to connect to the server and see the files and etc. He connects via the search bar by doing \\serverip\root in it. He is able to connect, but when I try, my computer gets problems connecting and doesn't allow me to do anything. Once I type the command in the search bar, nothing happens for a few seconds then it pops up with a "Network Error". It says "Windows cannot access \\serverip\root , Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network."

After I click diagnose, it says that the server is online but not responding to connection attempts. It also says that the problem may be with port 445 or the firewall. I'm not sure why I can't connect and my friend can. Any ideas? Please help.

Please help, I really want to be able to access the folders and run my server correctly. Are there other ways for me to do this or solutions?

    Thanks,
    Kfperin

certainly not a long term solution, but to try to find the source of the issue I would recommend turning off your machine's firewall and any router firewalls and ensure it can get through then.

Still no luck, I tried to connect without the router and I still get the same problem. Could it have to do with sharing on my computer?

Can you open this link http://www.everyport.net:445/
if you can`t open it, try to turn off your own firewall and re-check
if you still can`t open it maybe your internet provider block port 445. My previous internet provider also block port 445, so i find another provider and problem solved
