can't upload images to wordpress

I set up a wordpress blog to work with my subsite. It works OK except that I can't post images. I get an error message every time. First it said that I needed an uploads folder, so I created it. Then it said it couldn't put the images there. Is there a trick I need to know about?

Maybe it's because of your browser? It happens to me when I'm using IE 8.0. I'm now using Mozilla to avoid this problem.

However, let's upload a picture step by step together.

1. Click Upload/Insert Image button
2. Select files [from computer, media library or URL]
3. Wait for a little while to upload.
4. You'll see the title, captions, and other specs of your picture
5. At the end of the page, you'll see a button named "Insert Into to Post"
6. Click it!

That's all :)

Hey there swedishfig. WordPress probably doesn't have permission to upload files to the WordPress upload directory. Give this a shot:

1. Log-in to your website's file manager. Eg: http://your-domain.com/myfilemanager/
2. Traverse into your blog's "wp-content" directory.
3. Ensure that a directory called "uploads" exists.
4. Place a checkmark beside the "uploads" directory, and then click on the "Permission" link near the top-right corner of the File Manager GUI.
5. Ensure that "777" is in the text field that's closest to "Numeric Value".
6. Click the "Set" button.

Try uploading an image now.

That is a very nice solution. Sweet, indeed! I am particularly pleased that in the very likely event that my blog is hacked and defaced, and massive litigation ensues, MyHosting will bear full financial responsibility - having recommended in writing that I drop all security on the relevant folder. :eek:

Of course, if you'd care to suggest some other, less risky solution, that might be nice too...

Hey there, fung0. I understand your concern about making directories world-readable, and more importantly, world-writable.

However, you needn't worry. It's not possible for users to access other users' files.

When designing our Classic shared hosting environment, security was, and still is, a primary concern. We built in restrictions that prevent undesired access to other users' data.

I appreciate these restrictions. It's great to be able to upload images or do whatever you need to on your blog without worrying about data being stolen.
