Email Notification Error

I am getting this error on my phpbb3 forum:

Could not connect to smtp host : 0 : php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

I frequently get spammer on my forum because of this, When a user register they don't get an email notification!. None of the email Notification is working.
Because of that i have to set the forum to no activation require. And my user don't get notification for their pm and subscribed forum thread.

Please tell me how this issue can be resolve.
