    What are the benefits of an unmanaged server? Is this kind of server recommended only for pros?

    The primary benefit is cost savings. Since managed services have some expenditure in man-hours, there is a price to pay for that. If you have the know-how, an unmanaged server will save you money in the long run. But you'll probably need to know your way around a bit.
