What's the main difference between a virtual mail server and a domain mail box? Is a virtual mail server mainly for a big business? Can a simple mail box function almost as well for an individual?

for an individual vms would be overkill. if you require mail management, list management, account creation, ala marketing campaigns and newsletter management then do it.
