How do you setup a PPTP VPN?
Hi, I'm trying to setup a PPTP VPN on my centos vps, can anyone guide me on how to do this?
Thanks,
Carson

hi Carson,
From what I understand, VPNs can be created through Plesk. However, presently if you need VPN features, your VPS must be modified to support it manually by our team. We are looking at enabling this by default in the future but for now you'll just need to contact our support team to have it enabled.

Is this the only way? I'm trying to install Poptop - the pptp server on my vps. I'm in the process of setting it up but when I add a rule to my iptables I get this error iptables: Unknown error 18446744073709551615. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Carson

did not know that…that would be cool if it would be possible to enable myself

Hi Carson,
To confirm, I mentioned Plesk simply because it has the feature to managed VPNs in case you were looking for that kind of solution since it makes it easy to do so, you are not required to use Plesk at all.
Regardless of Plesk or any other VPN software you choose, you are required to contact our support team in order that VPNs work on your VPS at all (even with Plesk). A container setting must be updated for this to work.
Have you contacted our support team to have this particular feature enabled? Again, this has nothing to do with Plesk. If support has already enabled this and it's still not working let us know!

I am having some trouble getting this setup as well ... is it still a requirement that a member of the support staff needs to make some changes to the VPS first?
I have installed the .vpn.centos-6-x86_64 --- VPN support for CentOS 6 EZ template (and restarted the container of course)
I can establish a PPTP tunnel (somewhat) to my VPS but I cannot get network access or load any external websites
Any ideas on the best way to accomplish this? My guess is there is some iptables nat nonsense that I am missing ...

Hi There,
Have you tried to follow PPTP VPN on CentOS tutorial?
If you're still having problems after following the tutorial, please contact myhosting customer care at support@myhosting.com, or by phone at 1-866-289-5091.
Cheers

yes, I followed the steps in that kb (and the link within that article) ... a couple of times
I did contact support, who advised that my VPS was configured for ppp and tun/tap already ... and that I could go ahead and install my VPN software .... nothing I didn't already know :$
like I said, I think there is some firewall misconfiguration, as the steps in the kb link for updating iptables don't mention any venet interfaces
has anybody gotten pptp or tun/tap working on centos 6?

Hmm, yes it appears the steps in the KB are not fully functioning at least on centos 6. VPN package appears to work (reboot after installation is required still), but the pptp config appears to be missing something.
That you can connect means VPN is working, but the configuration is wrong in some way....
We'll look into this and see what better configuration we can find.
