Default virtual servers and power consumption

For people who've made the transition from a physical server to a virtual server, how much power consumption did you cut back on? It seems like this move is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.

As a hosting customer, you will probably not notice a direct impact, but indirectly there may be some cost savings for you.

If you are self-hosting, generally moving from a standalone server to one with multiple VMs will allow you to consolidate under-utilized servers onto less hardware. Why run 3 servers at 20% when you can run 1 at 60%?
