intrusion prevention
I'm interested in intrusion prevention tools. What are the best add-ons or software in this area? Do virtual servers usually provide effective intrusion prevention systems for free?

The MyHosting firewall is not going to help you much. It does not detect when logins fails (as would be the case for attacks) on regular service ports that are open. For example, an attacker can launch a brute force attack on a mailbox to try gain access. The MyHosting firewall will do absolutely nothing in such a case to prevent that or block the attacker after x number of failed attempts.
On our cPanel servers, we use ConfigServer Firewall that does a great job of identifying and blocking intrusion attempts. I have not yet identified anything similar to use on our Plesk Windows VPS.
