Debian Upgrade

Anyone knows if Debian is being upgraded soon? My automatic updates on Lenny are failing and I am guessing the reason is that the support was stopped.

Regarding CentOS 6 (and Debian 6), adding support for these relies on the next version of Virtuozzo supported in our Provisioning environment. It's currently in the testing phase in our dev environment. Once testing is complete and there are no outstanding issues, we'll be able to schedule the roll-out and upgrade for our clients.

So you're saying that Parallels Virtuozzo Containers can be upgraded independently of Plesk Panel?

Virtuozzo can be upgraded separately of Plesk, yes, but that's not the same as upgrading your Debian or CentOS version.

Technically you can look at it like this:

- Virtuozzo version is separate
- Host base OS is separate
- Guest OS (your container) can be upgraded but it is not "separate" of Plesk, you're still upgrading your OS which can cause problems.

So in the background, we can upgrade everything except your container OS without affecting your service.

I am confused a bit now. So do I wait for myhosting.com to update debian to 6 or do I do it myself inside debian as described in Upgrading to Debian Squeeze ? ?

myhosting.com will not be performing upgrades on behalf of clients since any upgrade can cause dependency changes and new file structure formatting. We will be launching Debian 6 very soon on new VPS', however existing customers will have to issue the upgrade command themselves at that time and be prepared for changes that may occur including creating backups. Details will come on steps to initiate the upgrade.

At this time, a reliable method of automating such upgrades doesn't seem effective. It is recommended to setup a new VPS and migrate manually.
