FTP Upload Using FileZilla
The following instructions cover typical usage of FileZilla. These
instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet connection,
via modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy server, the
information below may not work. Consult your network administrator for
more information.
Requirements:
- domain_name.com = Use your own domain name.
- 168.144.xxx.xxx = Use your own IP number (If your domain name is not pointing to our name servers yet)
- username = Use your own username
- password = Use your own password
Connecting to Your Web Site
- Start FileZilla.
- Click on the File menu option and select Site Manager.
- Click on My Sites and then click the New Site button in Site Manager window.
- Complete the fields in the Site Settings window.
- Click the Rename button and choose a name for your site – This
is a method of identifying the connection. It will appear in the left
most box of the connect window.
- Host - The domain_name.com*, for example: ftp.domain_name.com
- Port - 21
- Servertype – Leave as FTP – File Transfer Protocol
- Logontype – normal
- User – Your administrator username.
- Password - Your administrator password.
- Click the Connect button.
Uploading Files to Your Web Site/Downloading Files from Your Web Site
- Connect to your website.
- The FileZilla main window, which is used to transfer files to and from your Web site will display.
- The left frame is your local files list.
- The right frame is your Web server files list.
- Locate the files and/or folders that you wish to upload to your website.
- Select the files you wish to transfer.
- Drag the files from the Local System side of the program to
the Web Server side. Depending on the speed of your connection and the
sizes of the files you've selected, this can take a couple of seconds up
to several minutes. Please wait until the Server Messages window tells
you that it is done before performing any more commands.

FTP Upload Using Microsoft Expression Web or Microsoft Frontpage
The following instructions will cover typical usage of Expression Web
to connect to your web space. The instructions are only for
individuals with a direct Internet connection, via modem or network. If
you are behind a firewall or proxy server, the information below may
not work. Consult your network administrator for more information.
Requirements:
- domain_name.com = Use your own domain name.
- 168.144.xxx.xxx = Use your own IP number (If your domain name is not pointing to our name servers yet)
- username = Use your own username
- password = Use your own password
Publishing to Your Web Site
- From the File drop down menu, select Open Site.

- Enter your FTP location "ftp:// **your Domain .com** " (see below image for formatting).

- Then select "Edit local copy now, and publish changes to the server later" and click OK

- Then fill in the appropriate fields.

- Overview: Ensure that your settings are as follows:
- FTP should be selected by default at this point, if not, make sure it is opted as per the below image.
- The Web Site location should also be filled for you already, if not ensure that it is as per the below image.
- The Root Directory varies depending on the type of account you
are on. Windows 2008 accounts should enter "wwwroot" as per the below
image. If you are using our Basic Linux platform then this would be the
"docs" folder. If you are on our legacy Windows 2003 platform this can
be left blank.
- Click Next.

- After logging in from the "Site" window, which is used to transfer files to and from your Web site, the following will display:

- The right frame represents the files and folders on your Web server.
- The left frame is your local file list. This is the frame to which you will drag and drop the files on your local system.
- You can transfer files to and from your Web server by simply
selecting the files you want and dragging them to the appropriate
location. So for example, if you wish to upload your entire website,
you would select all the files in that folder on your local computer on
the right window, and drag them all over to the root "/" of your Web
server in the left window.

FTP Upload Using CuteFTP
The following instructions cover typical usage of CuteFTP. These
instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet connection,
via modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy server,
the information below may not work. Consult your network administrator
for more information.

Connecting to Your Web Site
- Start CuteFTP.

- Password - Your administrator password.
- FTP Site connection port - leave as 21
- Click the Connect button.
Uploading Files to Your Web Site/Downloading Files from Your Web Site
- Connect to your website.
- The CuteFTP main window, which is used to transfer files to and from your Web site will display.
- The left frame is your local files list.
- The right frame is your Web server files list.
- Locate the files and/or folders that you wish to upload to your website.
- Select the files you wish to transfer.
- Click the upload button (Up arrow) in the menu bar. Depending
on the speed of your connection and the sizes of the files you've
selected, this can take a couple of seconds up to several minutes.
Please wait until the Server Messages window tells you that it is done
before performing any more commands.

NOTE: The instructions above assume that software has
been installed correctly on your system. When transferring files via
FTP, do NOT overwrite or add any files to a folder with a "_" prefix
like "_vti_scripts". These folders are used as part of the FrontPage
Extensions. Modifying anything in those folders can corrupt the
FrontPage Extensions.
FTP Upload Using DreamWeaver
The following instructions will cover typical usage of Dreamweaver.
The instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet
connection, via modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy
server, the information below may not work. Consult your network
administrator for more information.

- domain_name.com = Use your own domain name.

Publishing to Your Web Site
- From the Site drop down menu, select Manage Sites.
- Select Edit.

- Click Advanced

- Select Local Info and fill in the following:
- Site Name - A friendly method of identifying the connection.
- Local Root Folder- Directory where the files are located on your local machine.
- HTTP Address - This address enables the Link Checker to detect HTTP links that refer to your own site
- Cache - The cache maintains file and asset information in the
site. This speeds up the Asset panel, link management, and Site Map
features.

- Select Remote Info. On the right you will see Access -
Drop down to the connection protocol you are using. You want to use FTP.
Then fill in the appropriate fields:
- FTP Host - Enter your ftp.domain_name.com. You may need to use
the IP address if the domain name has been recently activated or
transferred to us as the web host.
- Host Directory - Same as root directory. You can also leave this blank.
- Login - Your administrator username.
- Password - Your administrator password.
- Click OK.
- To Connect to the remote host, Click the icon shown here.

Once connected, use the drop down menu to the right to switch from Local view to Remote View:
- The files and folders on your Web server are shown in Remote View.
- The files and folders on your local system are shown in Local View.
- You can transfer files to and from your Web server by simply
selecting the files you want and "getting" them from the server to edit
them in Dreamweaver or "putting" the completed pages on your site. These
arrows can help "get" and "put" your HTML files.


- So for example, if you wish to upload your entire website, you
would select all the files in that folder on your local computer in
Local View, and click the arrow pointing upward to "put" them all on
your website.

Connecting to Your Web Site
- Start WS_FTP. The session properties window will display.
- Complete the following fields:
- Profile Name - A friendly method of identifying the connection.
Once you create the profile, it will be available from the drop down
list for future use
- Host Address - Your FTP domain name*, for example: ftp.domain_name.com
- User ID - Your administrator user name
- Password - Your administrator password
- Check the Save Pwd box to save your password (optional).
- Click OK to save the configuration and log in to the account.
Uploading Files to Your Web Site
- Log in. The WS_FTP main window, which is used to transfer files to and from your Web site, will display the following:
- The left frame is your local files list.
- The right frame is your Web server files list.
- Set the correct transfer mode at the top. All Web page files
must be uploaded in ASCII, while all programs must be uploaded in
Binary. You can use the Auto checkbox to allow WS_FTP to determine the
appropriate transfer mode, however, if you encounter any problems, you
may want to select the transfer mode manually.
- You will automatically be placed in the root folder of your
website on your Web server. You may need to navigate through your local
files and folders on the left to locate the folder you've reserved for
your website.
- To transfer or upload your website from your computer to our
server, select all the files needed in the window on the left side.
Then click on the button with the arrow pointing towards the right.
This will begin the uploading process. Depending on the speed of your
computer, this can take from a few seconds to several minutes. It will
notify you when it has completed the uploading process in the Server
Messages window.
NOTE: The instructions above assume that software has been
installed correctly on your system. When transferring files via FTP, do

Extensions. Modifying anything in those folders can corrupt the

FTP Upload Using Web Browser
You don't need to have a special FTP client in order to connect to
your site. You can use any browser, such as Internet Explorer or
Netscape, to connect by FTP. You can connect by typing the following
address in the Address field of your browser:
ftp://username:password@ftp.domain_name.com:21
Make sure to replace username, password, and domain_name.com with your actual account username, password and domain name. Click here if you have trouble finding this information.
When you are first connected, your root directory will be
displayed. You can move to any other directory/folder by double
clicking on the folder name. You can browse each folder and upload or
download files simply by Dragging and Dropping to or from the browser
window.
