In a Virtuozzo environment, dacachesize is a container
parameter that represents the total size of inode and dentry structures locked
in memory. An inode is a data structure that stores metadata or in other words
information about files. A dentry is what relates inode numbers to file names
and plays a role in directory caching, allowing for faster access of frequently
Dcachesize imposes a limit causing file operations to sense
memory shortage and return an error to applications. This protects against
memory shortages during critical system operations that shouldn’t fail.
Hitting this value occasionally is not something that should
be worried about. If you are hitting this value quite often, you may have an
application on your system that is performing too many file operations at once
or not closing opened files properly.
