According to a Web Hosting Geeks report, dedicated server trends are changing, as VPS servers allow businesses to enjoy the space of dedicated servers at lower costs. As a result, software has become the key distinguishing point between the two.
In a VPS server environment, companies can rent a significant portion of a device to enjoy flexibility, scalability and an expandable plan that approximates a dedicated server. However, the Web Hosting Geeks report found software customization is not as easy in a VPS environment because the company still shares space with other tenants.
Because of the shared nature of a VPS server, virtual server hosting on a dedicated server offers more options for software customization. Since organizations own the entire device in dedicated environments, they can freely choose which programs they wish to use to develop their website.
An earlier report from the Web Hosting Geeks indicates that VPS servers can be ideal for organizations running multiple web sites. By putting multiple sites on a VPS server, the company can become the sole tenant, but still keep its different web pages separated. This allows more freedom for development while also giving the organization flexibility for space allotment and server management.
