A recent report from WebHostingRating.com said many novice webmasters are quick to see that shared virtual server hosting plans have the lowest monthly cost, and move to adopt the plan. However, the report said novice webmasters should consider a virtual private server.
According to the report, a VPS actually offers lower initial investments than a shared server. This occurs because shared hosting plans usually require an annual commitment with up-front payment. Therefore, users must pay the entire year's fee to get the service started. In VPS server hosting plans, only the monthly fee is typically necessary.
A VPS server also benefits novice webmasters because it has fewer limitations. On a shared device, the site will share server resources with others. This leaves minimal space for customization and gives the site an inconsistent repository of resources. Alternatively, a VPS gives users dedicated resources and its own partition of a server, allowing webmasters to freely customize their site.
A recent Host Review report adds another major hosting service into the mix – cloud hosting. Cloud hosting is an emerging service that allows users to attach a VPS or dedicated server to a network of physical devices. This allows the webmaster to enjoy a more flexible hosting plan, the report said.
