According to a recent report from the Host Review, businesses are becoming more willing to employ virtual server hosting plans, such as a virtual private server, to house their mission critical applications and data because new managed hosting services are becoming popular in the industry.
The report said managed hosting solutions allow the service provider to perform the various setup, configuration and technical support tasks while putting the virtual server's management in the business' control.
There are currently three primary varieties dominating the managed hosting realm, the report said. Full management plans task the service provider with performing all of the day-to-day maintenance and management tasks, but allow the business to focus on developing the solution to match their processes and needs. Standard management requires the vendor to perform basic maintenance, but leave the business to make sure everything works well and maximize the device. In self-management, the report said the business performs almost all activities.
A recent In-Stat report found businesses could increase their spending on managed hosting and cloud computing solutions in the next three years. Overall, the report anticipates the industry's revenue to grow to $13 billion by 2014.
