IT Service Management Gets Its SaaS Handed To It

SaaS solutions are some of the most popular in the new cloud market, and are now starting to reach into every aspect of virtualized use. Often the last holdout for new change, IT management is finally seeing a viable SaaS spring up that can deliver on what it promises.

From a company called ServiceNow, which has been around the industry for some time, this SaaS option specifically targets the needs of IT managers and helps them address issues effectively. It was mentioned in a Network Word newsletter in 2007, and research firm Gartner credited the company with having “visionary status” in 2008.

So, what’s all the fuss about when it comes to ServiceNow and their IT management offering?

First, it has the same product lineup as other vendors currently on the market, which include incident, problem, change, release and CMDB, but charges a single price for the entire suite. At JMC Steel in Beachwood, Ohio, ServiceNow and its SaaS offerings have both the company’s director of infrastructure and project managers claiming that it is the “holy grail” of IT services.

As with many other companies, JMC evaluated a number of other providers before seriously looking at ServiceNow. With a smaller name than those such as CA and HP, it was easy to pass over at first, but the depth of its IT service quickly became apparent, and soon the company was back to take a closer look.

Now, JMC also uses change management, project and time entry and will soon be entering the field of problem management with this SaaS.

IT management service models are constantly evolving, but it appears that ServiceNow has found a solution that not only provides SaaS for the now, but for the future.
