For first time webmasters, choosing a virtual server hosting plan, whether it be a shared, dedicated or VPS server, can be an arduous and confusing process. A recent Host Review report details some of the essential factors that webmasters should take into account before choosing a hosting plan.

One of the report's recommendations is to understand the business' long-term goals. While a novice webmaster's first thought may be to find the most inexpensive hosting plan available, the report said a businesses expecting rapid growth may quickly need a VPS hosting plan. As a result, companies should not only be cautious when choosing an appropriate virtual server hosting plan at the outset, but also select a hosting provider that has options for upgrading to new plans.

The report also recommends treating free hosting plans with caution. While free hosting plans may seem wonderful at first glance, they often give users limited control over their site. Furthermore, some free hosting plans lack adequate customer support features, according to the report.

An earlier Host Review report said webmasters choosing a hosting solution often have to decide between Windows and Linux plans. The main difference between the two, according to the report, is what programming languages and applications they support.
