A recent report from the Web Hosting Geeks said VPS servers are becoming so popular that many consider them to be the best virtual server hosting option on the market. This conclusion is made because they offer many of the same features as dedicated hosting plans, but in a logistical model reminiscent of shared hosting.
As a result, the report said the VPS server is a relatively affordable hosting model that offers a bridge between shared and dedicated plans. This is accomplished by dividing virtual machines into multiple partitions, similar to shared models, but doing so with fewer virtual machines on each physical device.
The differences between shared and VPS servers go beyond the number of hosted machines per physical device, as VPS servers also feature a dedicated operating system, RAM, processing and other computing resources.
According to an earlier report from the Web Hosting Geeks, billing models typically used in VPS and shared server plans can sometimes make it less expensive to choose a VPS plan. Usually, hosting providers use monthly bills with no setup fee for a VPS, but annual billing with a setup fee for shared options. In some instances, this makes a VPS server less expensive, the report said.
