iPhone Setup


Goal

Most users with an iPhone device are well aware of the synchronization abilities with ActiveSync, and of its features.  We offer fully functional ActiveSync Exchange accounts.  All that is required is to add the service on to a user, and then configure the device with the generated password. This can easily be done with just the Control Panel and your device.

 

Add User

First, log in to your Control Panel at http://support.myhosting.com and click on the Exchange tab at the top.

Once there, choose the user you want to configure your iPhone device for by selecting the GO button to the right of the address.

Ensure that your plan type shows Hosted Exchange Email as it is required for ActiveSynch.

 

Configuring the Device

There are three ways to configure the device: manually, automatically with a script, or with an SMS message to the device.

The recommended method is by using the download script: it is very easy.  Simply use the iPhone to log in to your control panel and follow these steps. 

 

1.       On the device log in to http://support.myhosting.com with your account information, and click the Exchange tab at the top.

2.       Then click on the GO button for the address you wish to configure on the device. 

3.       Scroll down, and click on the View iPhone Settings link

4.       Now click the Download the Configuration File link, which will change your iPhone screen to a script install page.

5.       Verify accepting the script and install

6.       You will receive onscreen instructions on the device; simply follow them to complete the setup.

 

You can manually configure the device by clicking on the Instructions link at the bottom of the View iPhone Settings page.

These are the steps provided.

Hosted Exchange Email Configuration for iPhone/iPod Touch 2.0

You can follow the steps outlined below to configure your iPhone or iPod Touch 2.0 with your mail2web.com Business Exchange account. The following instructions assume that you have not already configured any other email account on your device.

1. If you haven't set up any mail accounts yet, from the main menu, select Mail. Then select Microsoft Exchange.

If you have already set up another mail account, from the main menu choose Settings, then click on Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then click Add Account...

2. You will be prompted to fill in your email address, username, password and description. You can fill in the Email field and Username field with your full email address, the password field with your account password, and any description you like. Also, depending on your Firmware version you may also see a Domain field, which you can leave blank. Once you have completed filling in the fields, click Next to proceed.

3. Your device will attempt to connect to the server, but will then prompt you to fill in the server name, which you should enter as ex7.myhosting.com.

Alternately, you may wish to use the iPhone configuration script that is available from your View iPhone Settings page either in your
Control Panel or OWA

4. Click Next to complete the setup. You can now select if you want to synchronize your Mail, Contacts and Calendars. Select the options you want and click Save.


 

Conclusion

Activations should take a few minutes. Simply wait for the Activation Complete message from the device, then you will be fully synchronize with the exchange server.  Note that you may be required to register additional folders on the device if you want folders other than your inbox to synchronize with the device.
