Using SSL for SharePoint
All Windows SharePoint Services plans include free Shared SSL access.
You do not need to activate your shared SSL service, it is already
active and accessible for your account as soon as it is created. To use
your shared SSL simply browse to your site using https:// instead of http://. Your site will automatically make use of our shared SSL key to complete the 128-bit encryption.
Security alert when viewing site via SSL
Because of the nature of our Shared SSL certificate, you may receive 1
or 2 security warnings when viewing your site over HTTPS. However,
please be assured that this does not mean that your information is not
encrypted. Data sent to and from our server is still encrypted despite
the security warnings.
The security warnings you may notice are:
The security certificate was issued by a company you have not
chosen to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to
trust the certifying authority. - This warning simply indicates that
the company who issued our certificate is not listed in your default
set of trusted SSL Certificate Authorities. The certificate is issued by
Comodo Group, a well known and trusted Certification Authority.
The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site - You will receive this alert simply because the name on the certificate is myhosting.com and this does not match the name of your site (under your domain name).
However please note that neither security warning will prevent
the SSL certificate from functioning fully and properly. You should
still expect to see the lock icon at the bottom of your browser window,
which indicates that the certificate is functioning properly.
